Whiter Than Snow

In the midst of the last snowfall…

Getting up this dark morning I could see the white snow on the ground outside the window and I thanked God. It helps me see more clearly.

Coming to the kitchen and turning on the light outside the window, snow was still lightly falling. “Another blessing” I thought, and again gave thanks.

Watching the tiny flakes drifting down was a gentle sight. I stopped to breathe it in and said “Thank You, Lord, for covering up some of the winter darkness.”

He knew I had thoughts about the yucky messes it makes and I told Him I’d try not to complain. I told Him I want to be one that gives thanks.

It reminded me of Luke 17:11-19

11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus traveled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”

14 When he saw them, he said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed.

15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him—and he was a Samaritan.

17 Jesus asked, “Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?” 19 Then he said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well.”

I’ve had emotionally dark days in my life when I knew I should be able to recognize beauty … in a rose (or anything really) but it was missing.

I did not have any capability of retrieving what I knew was missing and I was so sad I didn’t know what to do except call out to Jesus.

He heard me say, “Lord, I don’t have anyone to help me” and He gave me strength to take a breath and a step. I hung on to Jesus, sought Him with all I had, and He has been faithful.

I continue to take a breath and a step. And this morning I celebrate because I can see brighter with the white of the snow.

As I give Him thanks He is even giving me a song lyric in my mind:
“Whiter than snow…He’s washed me and I am now whiter than snow”

Thank You Lord JESUS! Amen
