A NEW MISSIONARY JOURNEY

LCMS Missionary Rev. Andrew Schlund and Family

If you missed worship this past weekend (August 1 & 2), you did not have the opportunity to meet and learn more about Rev. Andrew Schlund and his family. They are about to embark on a call to mission work in Mexico City, Mexico. Learn more about them and how you can support them here:

Portait of the Schlund familyRev. Andrew and Kelsey Schlund have been called to serve the Lord through The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod (LCMS) as career missionaries mainly based in Mexico City, Mexico. In his role, Andrew will work with other missionaries in the theological education of existing pastors and possible future pastors. He will also preach and teach whenever needed in the local congregations there. Through the relationships that are formed, Andrew and Kelsey seek to share the Good News of Jesus Christ with the people of Mexico.

Andrew was born in Janesville, Wisconsin, and grew up in Delevan, Wisconsin, and Ravenna, Nebraska. His father is pastor at Peace Lutheran Church, Great Falls, Montana. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Concordia University, Nebraska, Seward, and his Master of Divinity from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis. While doing his work at the seminary, he completed his vicarage at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield, Illinois. He has continued his education at the seminary to also be able to complete a Master of Sacred Theology (an additional degree for pastors) and is currently working to complete his thesis for this degree, his writing focused on the Gospel of Matthew.

Andrew does not point to one specific experience that influenced his direction toward this call God has for him, but rather a number of events. He recalls that his Father, also a pastor, would regularly invite missionaries into his church to share about the work they were doing. He remembers their drive to be missionaries and their passion to spread the
Gospel to all corners of the world.

Andrew met his wife Kelsey while they were attending college together at Concordia-Seward in Nebraska. Kelsey was born in St. Charles, Missouri, where her home congregation, Immanuel Lutheran Church, is located. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry and Secondary Education from Concordia University-Seward, and a Master’s Degree in Chemistry from Saint Louis University. Together Andrew and Kelsey have a beautiful daughter, Charlotte, who will also join them on the mission field.

Outside of mission work, they do enjoy spending time as a family. Andrew personally enjoys reading, playing board games, biking and doing puzzles. In her spare time, Kelsey enjoys hobbies that include reading, photography, traveling, and going for walks.

How to Support the Schlund Family on Mission

Through Prayer
Please pray for the Schlund Family as they transition to living in Mexico City and serving in Mexico, learning the culture and language. Pray that the Gospel of Jesus Christ has free reign through the LCMS missionaries serving in Mexico. Ask the Lord of the Harvest to call more workers from Mexico to spread the Gospel in their country. Pray the hearts of people here in the United States are moved to pray for and to financially support the Schlunds so they can “go with” this family on their journey of faith. Let us give thanks to God that Andrew, Kelsey and Charlotte are serving His children in this part of the world.

Through Encouragement
The Schlund Family hopes for their transition to Mexico to be smooth, but they would also be appreciative of continued encouragement through this difficult task. We as a church have the opportunity to partner with this family in their work in Mexico, and we hope to be able to maintain contact with them, receiving updates and providing encouraging notes to them in return. We can take note of these important and special dates in their family and perhaps take time to show them love and care along the way:

Birthdays: Andrew – Oct. 21, Kelsey – Aug. 16, Charlotte – March 28
Andrew & Kelsey’s Wedding Anniversary: June 17
