Beautiful Songs of Worship

Submitted by Jennifer Power

listen-to-musicPerhaps you are like me and spend a good chunk of time each week with headphones listening to music to drown out distraction, or perhaps you spend your days at home taking care of children with music in the background, or maybe you spend a lot of time driving and listening to the radio. Even if none of these describe you, chances are music is a part of your daily life in some way or another.

This week, for my blog post, I am gathering a list of some of my current favorite songs which lift my spirit and help me sense the presence of God as I go about the business of life. If you are in need of a special touch from the Lord this week, perhaps He will speak to you and encourage you with some of these this week.

Good, Good Father by HOUSEFIRES II

I love this version of Good, Good Father which goes on for more than eight minutes.

Such simple focus on the love and goodness of our Father draws me in to His presence time and again. I love when the song sweetly reminds me that God is pleased and that I am never alone.

“I’ve heard the gentle whisper of love in the dead of night
As you tell me that you’re pleased and that I’m never alone.
You’re a good, good Father…it’s who You are, and I’m loved by You.”

Never Going Back by United Pursuit

I love long worship songs. This one, Never Going Back like Good, Good Father, is also more than eight minutes long. If you have never experienced this song, I would highly encourage you to give it a listen (or two…or, in my case, perhaps 50…)

It begins by talking about the faithfulness of God to us which leaves us with only one response: sold-out dedication and surrender to One who loves us more than we deserve or could ever begin to fathom. Listen to these words as the song plays, and let them become your anthem.

“Faithful one no matter how far I run
You lead me home you extend your love
Patiently fathering the orphan in me
You say I am yours”

Jesus I Come by Elevation Worship

I mentioned this song in my post last week. If you missed it, you can check it out here. This is a simple beautiful song.

“Oh how I need Your grace
More than my words can say
Jesus I come Jesus I come
In all my weaknesses
You are my confidence
Jesus I come Jesus I come”

Satisfied in You by the Sing Team

Inspired by Psalm 42, this somber and lovely song has echoes of an Old Testament lament centered firmly in a hope found only in God. This honest song reminds us life in God is not always easy and can be downright hard, but that our deepest thirsts can be satisfied only in Him.

“Let my sighs give way to songs that sing about your faithfulness
Let my pain reveal your glory as my only real rest
Let my losses show me all I truly have is you”

Steady Heart by Steffany Gretzinger

God will never leave us – not ever. This song underlines this central fact of our life in Christ. There is hope and light always in Him. Therefore, we can have a “steady heart,” being led by Him.

“You are faithful, You will lead me
You are faithful You will keep me
You are faithful, You will lead me on”

Jesus Paid it All by Kings’ Kaleidoscope

Jesus Paid it All is one of my all-time favorite hymns, and this version is just amazing. (They do some other hymns as well – all worth the time to listen.)

“Oh praise the One, who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead.
Oh praise the One, who paid my debt
And raised this life up from the dead.”

I Surrender by Hillsong Live

I need regular anthems of surrender to remind me of the gravity of my need for God and to renew my “no matter what” loyalty to Him. This song by Hillsong Live is a perfect song to listen to with a hand raised in surrender and loyalty to the One who loves us more than anyone else in the whole wide world.

“Like a rushing wind
Jesus breathe within
Lord have Your way
Lord have Your way in me”

Scandal of Grace by Hillsong United

Perhaps my favorite song of this past year, every time this song comes on our playlist at home, I tell my husband “I love this song!” and he tells me he knows.

“Oh to be like You
Give all I have just to know You
Jesus, there’s no one besides You
Forever the hope in my heart”

I hope, in this post-Easter week, this playlist full of songs of worship will help you and your family draw near to the One who could not bear to be without you and determined there was no price too high to bring you back to Him.
