In the midst of living in a time where it feels that so much around us is changing and shifting, I thought it would be beneficial to remind ourselves of what we have and always will be called to do as Christ’s followers. No matter what’s happening in the world around us, here’s a list of things that Christ tells us we can rely on understanding and doing until the moment we draw our final breath:

Repent. From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” – Matthew 4:17

Do Not Be Anxious. “Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.” – Matthew 6:34

Let Your Life Shine With Goodness And Healing. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:14-16

Keep Your Word. “Let what you say be simply ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; anything more than this comes from evil.” – Matthew 5:37

Love Your Enemies. “But I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.” – Matthew 5:44

Treat Others As Yourself. “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.” – Matthew 7:12

Forgive Graciously and Generously. Then Peter came up and said to him, “Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.” – Matthew 18:21-22

This list is by no means comprehensive of everything Jesus desires of us as disciples. But it gets us a good ways down the road. I invite you, challenge you, to consider these (and many other) calls from Christ. Our world will always be changing. Our God and His will stays the same. Let’s bring some of that consistency to our corner of the world, in Jesus’ name.

Enjoying the Journey,

Pastor Doug
