“O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar…”

These are the words that begin Psalm 139, a Psalm of David. He paints a clear picture of how no one, nothing, knows us as deeply and truly as God our Father. How could He not? He is our Creator – we grow and live and breathe by His hand.

“…My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them…”

He knew us before we were known. He formed us with intention…intricately woven. Every detail, with great love and care.

And yet….
We try to take over, think we “get to” determine how things really should go – we think we know better and place trust in our own selves instead.

Why do we disrespect His creation, His intentionality, His wisdom that is just for us, for our individual life? When we’re trying to grasp the wheel and drive this life we were given, we quickly drive off the path into ditches and wrong roads, guard rails and even other cars.

What is keeping you from placing your trust fully in God? Why are you grasping the wheel instead of holding on to Him? What do you need to let go of and set down so you are freed to hold to Him and allow your Creator to guide you to the purpose He created you for?

Take your hands off the wheel. Close your eyes and open your ears. Imagine yourself back in that “hidden place” where it was just you and God. Clear away all of the distractions. Turn off all of the self-talk and other voices that cloud your mind. Hear only your heart beat, the whooshing of the air in your lungs…in and out. Be still and be silent, and just listen.

When you’re ready, read Psalm 139, then listen to the song included here below and let it wash over you. Let it be your prayer today. Perhaps, let it be your prayer for several days. Recognize you are not your own – you are His, you are known, you are loved…all in ways beyond our own comprehension. imagesYou are hidden, surrounded by the safety of His love. This time is just for you and your Father, just between you and Him. Place your trust back in its rightful place, back in your Creator’s hands. As you do that, leave your hand in His hands too, and let Him lead you. Place your trust in Him. Ask, “Father, where would you have me go, what would you have me do, what do you want me to see today?”

Listen. Respond, and follow with a grateful heart and a renewed surrender.

HIDDEN

– by United Pursuit (featuring Will Reagan)

[Verse 1] There was one when I was young
Who knew my heart
He knew my sorrow
He held my hand
And He led me to trust Him

[Chorus 1] Now I am hidden
In the safety of Your love
I trust Your heart and Your intentions
Trust You completely
I’m listening intently
You’ll guide me through these many shadows

[Verse 2] As I grow
And as I change
May I love You more deeply
I will lean upon Your grace
I will weep because Your goodness is unending

[Chorus 2] You are my vision
My reason for living
Your kindness leads me to repentance
I can’t explain it
This sweet assurance
But I’ve never known this kind of friend
I can’t explain it
This sweet assurance
But I’ve never known this kind of friend

[Bridge] The sun, moon, and stars
Shout Your name
They give You reverence
And I will do the same
With all my heart I give You glory
The sun, moon, and stars
Shout Your name
They give You reverence
And I will do the same
With all my heart I give You glory

[Bridge 2] I want to seek You first
I want to love You more
I want to give You the honor You deserve
So I bow before You
I am overcome by the beauty of this perfect love

I want to seek You first
I want to love You more
I want to give You the honor You deserve
So I bow before You
I am overcome by the beauty of this perfect love

[Chorus 1] Now I am hidden
In the safety of Your love
I trust Your heart and Your intentions
Trust You completely
I’m listening intently
You’ll guide me through these many shadows
