Know-It-All

I vividly remember that warm summer evening telling my mom I was going to a friend’s house to play board games. I might have stretched the truth a bit and ended up at a different girlfriend’s house to watch a movie. Only a couple of minutes later I hear the dreaded vibrate of my new flip phone with the name “MOM” across the screen. But it was okay. I was a good kid. Surely she’d believe my little white lie.

WRONG.

I’m convinced she had GPS on my car. But her answer? “Didn’t you know Lindsey? Moms know everything.”

As soon as I found out I was going to be a mommy myself, I was so excited to finally be the one with “all the answers” – the one who knows everything.

But I must confess, my first DAY of motherhood and I was ready to hand over the know-it-all card – I suddenly knew nothing! And from that day forward I vowed to never be the mom who “knows everything” and this is why…

1. I don’t.
2. I don’t know why God made the sky blue and the grass green.
3. I don’t know why the dryer eats socks.
4. I don’t know why we are entitled to bad days.
5. I don’t know why people suffer from cancer.
6. I don’t know why God thought mornings were important. (Personally, I’m not a fan)
7. I don’t know everything.

I am not upset about that. Instead, I get all of those opportunities to turn myself, my children, and others to Christ. We do know for certain that He has all the answers, but we must accept that we may not understand them all.

So take this as your reminder that it’s okay to not know everything. It’s normal to feel inadequate. WE ALL ARE.

Daniel 2:22 says, “It is He who reveals the profound and hidden things; He knows what is in the darkness, And the light dwells with Him.”

As you find yourself searching for answers, looking for the right thing, you must look to your Heavenly Father first before finding any tangible answer here on earth. Whether it’s in your home, your work place, or your heart, you are bound to encounter many challenges.

You certainly can fabricate your own answers (as if you know everything, right?). Or you can search within, reach out through prayer, and answer with a sincere, solid, and Christ-like answer.

Besides, He’s the only one who truly knows everything.
