LSW2018Did you know that the LCMS supports a network of nearly 2,300 preschools, elementary schools and high schools? This week is National Lutheran Schools Week (January 21-27, 2018), a public opportunity to celebrate the teachers, administrators, and students in our Lutheran schools and to proclaim and celebrate God’s work among us in Lutheran schools.

This year’s theme for the week is “It’s Still About Jesus” – each day of the week has a special focus:

  • Monday: Jesus is the Message of Scripture
  • Tuesday: Jesus is the Truth of the Reformation
  • Wednesday: Jesus is the Mission of the School and Church
  • Thursday: Jesus is the Heart of the Home
  • Friday: Jesus is the Focus of our Life

Our schools are engaging in different prayer, worship, school spirit, and serving activities throughout the week to celebrate.

At SPL, we thank God for the opportunity to share His love and provide excellent academic preparation for the children we serve through our Lutheran School Association (LSA) and our St. Paul’s Early Learning Center. National Lutheran Schools Week gives us an opportunity to proclaim these great blessings within the communities we serve.

LSA Souper BowlOne way the LSA is connecting with the families of our school and the larger community is through it’s SOUPER BOWL event. This celebration is being held on Thursday, January 25th from 5:30-7:00pm at the LSA (on the Gray Court inside the LSA Gymnasium). It will include a wide collection of soups and themed presentations provided by each grade level at LSA (with additional entries possible). A friendly competition that does include prizes, attendees can come to sample the different soup offerings and vote for their favorites. Free will offering will be collected – funds raised will benefit Northeast Community Fund.

This event will also coincide with the LSA High School Girls Basketball game and Senior night – come for the soup, benefit the work of Northeast Community Fund, and stay to show your school spirit and cheer on our LSA Lady Lions.

Association churches are welcome to submit a soup entry too – if you or your group would be interested in hosting a table and bringing your best soup forward, contact Mr. Joel Witt, LSA K-8 Principal at jwitt@lsadecatur.net or 217-233-2001.

There are many great things happening at both of our Lutheran schools. Want to check out St. Paul’s Early Learning Center (ELC) or the Lutheran School Association (LSA)? Tours and more information are always available.

PRAY 3:16 for Lutheran Schools Week

Pray316SPL Join us in prayer at 3:16 each day – this week, lift up the students, families, teachers, and staff of our Lutheran School Association and our St. Paul’s Early Learning Center. Pray that God may continue to work through each of them mightily, and that others may come to know Christ because of these two important ministries and those who support them.
