“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16
Pastor Doug brought us such a great reminder this past weekend of what the above piece of scripture really means as he spoke to us about what LOVE really means and what it really looks like….Love DOES. As I rode to work yesterday and listened to WBGL, the lyrics to a song I heard really caught my attention and hearkened back to the words of Pastor Doug’s sermon. It is called “Let Love Win” by Carrollton. Coming off of National Marriage Week last week and Valentine’s Day, it further reminded me of how we should behave in our relationships and especially in our marriages. We should not fight with or at one another, but we should fight FOR one another, fight FOR our marriages, and keep in perspective what we’re really fighting against. We should not just wait and expect from one another, but we should choose to love, and give to one another (without expectation) as we put that selfless love into action.
Can we dare to love the way that God loves us? Can we be so bold to show love the way that Christ did? Can we truly give without expectation? The lyrics in the bridge section of this song poses some additional questions for us as well:
What if fighting for our beliefs Looks more like surrendering Though that’s the hardest thing
What if standing up for what’s right Means laying down our pride Even laying down our lives
Think about what that would mean for you personally, what that would mean for your family relationships, for your marriage. Where can you be more surrendered to God and His leading? What areas can you be praying over for your spouse and just giving it to God (instead of trying to “fix it” yourself)?
Take five minutes to read the lyrics below and then take a listen to the song. Take a moment to reflect and pray. Let this be the day you think about what LOVE DOES in your life and how you can choose to act going forward. Make a positive change and take another step toward strengthening your marriage and family relationships. Build the Home.
In His Love,
Andrea Gerhard
